The District Attorney's Office is responsible for reviewing, charging and
prosecuting within Racine County all felony, misdemeanor and juvenile crimes,
County ordinance violations, cases involving children in need of protection or
services, termination of parental rights, welfare fraud, failure to pay child
support, consumer fraud complaints, misdemeanor appeal briefs and arguments,
Department of Natural Resources referrals, Department of Workforce Development
referrals, civil suits filed by inmates of the Racine County Jail and all state
correctional facilities within our borders, open meetings and open records
complaints, truancy and immunization referrals, election law violations, and
various miscellaneous and citizen complaints.
For 2001, the office listed two goals. The first was "Enforce vigorous and
fair prosecution of individuals accused of crimes in Racine County in order to
safeguard and protect the rights and safety of all citizens." The second was
"Strive to continue to improve efficiency through computerization and training
and to improve our service to victims and witnesses involved in the criminal
justice system."
