The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SEWRPC) is a voluntary
organization that has been established in accordance with State Statutes to
serve the needs of its member Counties. It is comprised of Kenosha, Milwaukee,
Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Washington, and Waukesha Counties. The budget
appropriates the funds necessary to pay that portion of SEWRPC's annual
operating budget levied against the citizens of Racine County. The budget is
allocated to the seven counties based upon equalized valuation.
SEWRPC staff perform a large variety of planning related work including
community assistance, transportation, land use, and environmental planning;
economic development assistance; cartographic work; economic, demographic, and
public financial resource studies; and census tract coordination. Through its
planning, the SEWRPC seeks to build a consensus among public and private
interests on how to best resolve area-wide developmental and environmental
problems.
Any member County may choose to withdraw from this organization by declaring its
intention to do so before July 1 preceding the year in which that County would
intend to cease participating as a member of the organization. Otherwise, the
County Board is legally obligated to fund the specific tax levy adopted by
SEWRPC for the following year.
