OPERATING AUTHORITY AND PURPOSE

The Racine County Economic Development Corporation (RCEDC) was established in 1983 as a special partnership between government, business, and community interests to promote job creation and long term business investment within the County. RCEDC is a private, non-profit corporation led by a 29-member Board of Directors representing local industry, government, education, and professional organizations. Each year, the Board Members, professional staff, dedicated committee members, and our partners work together to build a stronger economic base within Racine County. RCEDC’s mission is to ensure the economic vitality of Racine County by working with our partners to support technological innovation and design. The RCEDC is people and programs working to enhance economic development throughout Racine County, and the objective is to solve any barrier to job creation. We offer the following: Workforce Development – Assistance in establishing individual company and community-wide workforce development programs through partnerships at the Workforce Development Center; Technology Development – Supporting the application of technology in private industry through the Center for Advanced Technology and Innovation (CATI); Help for Small Business – Business development assistance to new and growing small businesses through the Racine County Small Business Development Center; Business Financing – Long-term, fixed rate financing to help you grow your business at the lowest possible cost; Land and Buildings for your Expansion Project – Inventories of available space, including sites and business parks; Your Single Point of Contact – We are your first step for information on economic development in Racine County. Established relationships with government agencies help bring your opportunities to a reality; Building the Racine County Image – Call us for information on the advantages of moving your business to Racine County; Community Partnerships – Working together in partnership with other community development organizations and local governments to provide necessary community facilities and services.
As demonstrated above, the RCEDC and our partners can provide businesses with almost every service needed to complete an expansion, relocation, or workforce development program. Our dedicated staff is committed to meeting the needs of Racine County businesses and companies interested in expanding into Racine County.

Performance measures for RCEDC are developed and evaluated by the RCEDC Board and Staff.

2003 GOALS AND BUDGET STRATEGIES

Challenges: to foster an entrepreneurial climate; to encourage innovation in support of existing business throughout Racine County; to recognize the importance of the knowledge economy to Racine County’s future; to transform the image of Racine County; for Racine County to be the catalyst for the realization of the Chicago-Milwaukee Corridor; to link land use with business expansion; to ensure greater social equity and economic opportunity through a commitment to an accountable and responsive public education system; to maintain and increase employment in Racine County; to create opportunities for low-income, disadvantaged, and minority individuals. Specific strategies are outlined for each challenge and they are listed in the Economic Adjustment Strategy brochure and the Strategic Economic Development Plan, copies of which are on file with the Racine County Clerk and at the Planning and Development Department.
